    Today, I share a simple, straight forward Detox Salad that is refreshing, light and clean.It is full of vitamins and minerals to give the body an extra boost. It is also great because leafy greens are diuretic in nature and can help expel added water weight. Greens also help to bring balance to the system by adjusting pH, they also help eliminate any toxins that may be present and are loaded with vitamins that we tend to lack through the winter months.

    Detox Salad Recipe
    - 4 cups any greens or baby lettuce
    - 1/2 cup carrots, shredded
    - 1/2 cup alfalfa sprouts
    - 1 c. dandelion greens
    -1/4 c. shredded beets, marinated, if desired
    -1/2 apple, shredded
    -1/4 cup walnuts, chopped, optional
    -1/4 c. raisins, optional

    Dressing
    - juice of 1 lemon
    - 1/4 c Stevia, coconut nectar or honey to taste
    - 1 teaspoon fresh garlic, diced
    -1/2 tsp. ginger
    -4 drizzles of flax oil or extra virgin olive oil (optional)
    -4 drizzles of your apple cider or coconut vinegar
    -1/2 tsp. Bragg’s Kelp seasoning
    -1/4 tsp. turmeric

    -salt and pepper, herbs like rosemary, to taste

    Arrange the greens on a plate and arrange the carrots, apples and sprouts in circular piles along the top of the plate like a rainbow – I like it all jumbled up but you can make it as you choose. Then, mix the dressing ingredients and drizzle on top.
    Marinated Beets-

    1-1/2 beets
    1/4 onion
    1 T apple cider or coconut vinegar (or more to taste, for sweetness)

    Use the food processor, mandoline or shredder, or spiralizer to slice the beets and onions to desired shape. Pour into a bowl.
    Add apple cider vinegar and mix well. The longer it sits, the softer they’ll be!

    What is detoxification?

    I’ll tell you one thing, no p!ll or cleanse that you intake orally has anything whatsoever to do with true detoxification! True detoxification happens when you eliminate a substance that you regularly intake. When this happens, you go through withdrawals. These withdrawals indicate that true detoxification is taking place. An example might be when the decade-long coffee drinker eliminates coffee and they get headaches, cravings and don’t feel well. Or when the cigarette smoker, alcoholic or hero!n add!ct stops intaking their substance, they go through massive withdrawals also known as detoxification. If you think that the coffee drinker or the cigarette smoker has an issue eliminating the intake of their one substance, now imagine the person eliminating processed foods altogether, which includes many harmful substances such as trans-fatty acids, refined sugar, processed starches, excito-toxins, grease and the list goes on and on and on. The detoxification is immense in this situation and this is the main reason why people seem ton find it so difficult to stay on a healthy d!et.

    “Detox” is hip today and everyone wants to find that natural detox “m!racle” p!ll. However, no p!ll is going to do the trick; disease is the resul*t of the build up and overload of toxicity in the human body. The majority of this toxic overload tends to come from foods that are not meant for the human body, also known as processed foods. To heal from disease, we need to eliminate this toxic overload in the body.

    So, in order to heal we want to find the most efficient method of removing this toxicity overload.

    Before we get into the details of the most efficient method, I want to explain a new concept that I’ve never talked about publically before…

    The “inner terrain” of the human body.

    I like to break down the inner terrain of the human body into two different parts:

    1. “Shallow” Inner Terrain
    2. “Deep” Inner Terrain

    When the body is overloaded with toxicity, it tries to eliminate this burden. Everyone gets different symptoms when they are overloaded with toxicity. Some people get zits on the face, others get psoriasis, people get runny noses, headaches, sore throats or even bronchitis or pneumonia when the toxic overload is more severe.

    The root of all these symptoms is the same thing… an overload of toxicity!

    The doctors just try to classify each symptom to a “spec!al” case and give you poisonous pharmaceutical drugs to not only suppress the body from eliminating the toxicity overload (disease), but also add to this toxicity overload with more pharmaceutical poisons.

    The ”shallow” inner terrain of the body refers to the area where the toxins are closest to the outlets of the outer body, ready to be released. For example, it’s the area right before the pathway to the zit on the face, mucus in the nose, skin eruptions all over the body, sleep/mucus in the eye, body odor in the armpits, etc.

    The ”deeper” inner terrain of the body is the area deep within the body and the toxins stored here are not even close to being released from the outer bodily outlets. For example, this includes toxins deep within the trillions and trillions of cells within the body, bile and ac!d built up in the liver, toxins built up in all other organs, etc.

    In order to eliminate these symptoms that our bodies are producing such as the zits, psoriasis, and other sicknesses, we need to somehow clean the pathways of the body where this toxicity build up starts, which is the shallow inner terrain of the body.

    If we can somehow keep the shallow inner terrain of the body clean on a consistent basis, we will see no further toxic outbreaks.

    How do we do this?

    First we need to eliminate the outside source of this toxicity build up. We need to stop intaking processed foods and other toxins. The issue is that when you eliminate substances from the body that you’ve been conuming for decades on end, you are going to go through withdrawals and detoxification.

    Detoxification here is the removal of toxicity from the deeper inner terrain of the body, which dumps over into the shallow inner terrain of the body. Remember, the shallow inner terrain of the body is the area right before the pathway to all of the outlets of the body. Therefore, when you improve your d!et, there is a great chanc*e that your “symptoms” of disease will flare up even more so than normal, because the overload of toxicity from detoxification from the deeper inner terrain dumps into the shallow terrain of the body.

    Also remember that this dumping of toxicity into the shallow inner terrain of the body occurs from eliminating substances from your body. Therefore, the more foods you eliminate from your d!et, for example, the more withdrawals and detox you are going to go through, the more toxicity will dump into your shallow inner terrain from the deeper inner terrain of the body, and the more toxicity that is then in the shallow inner terrain of the body, the higher the chanc*e of symptoms of sickness (i.e. removal of toxins from the body).

    This is why the Raw Food D!et gets such a bad ra*p!

    People become way more toxic in their systems when they are eliminating the vast array of healthy and unhealthy cooked foods and old accumulated matter in their systems is being stirred up. When you do something so “extreme” as a 100% Raw Food D!et you won’t feel well and any symptoms you have will most likely become even worse temporarily, as the body consistently goes through more and more withdrawals with each passing day. This is why I recommend a whole foods d!et over a 100% Raw Food D!et, for most people.

    Yep! You guessed it! Cleansing the colon with water is the most powerful detox method in the world and nothing even comes close to it! There are endless Mayan artifacts with carvings from this advanced civilization showing people doing enemas. This practice has a looooooooong and successful history…

    The colon is the human sewage system and every internal waste outlet of the body dumps into here. When you cleanse the colon and empty it, the “shallow” inner terrain of the body can then unload all of the waste into the colon, instead of it coming out of your skin etc. The less toxicity in the shallow inner terrain of the body, the less bodily “disease” symptoms will exist. However, there is a “catc*h 22″ here. When you cleanse your colon out, it enables the shallow inner terrain of the body to become empty. When the shallow inner terrain of the body becomes empty, it allows space for the deeper inner terrain of the body to dump even more old concentrated toxins into the shallow inner terrain of the body. So it’s like a balancing act, trying to keep the shallow inner terrain of the body as clean as possible to avoid symptoms of disease. So the best time to cleanse your colon is when you are “sick” or have any symptoms. Detoxification is an ongoing balancing act and is best explored with much awareness.

    Remember first, we need to only eat whole foods for optimal health and then it’s ideal to cleanse the colon on a periodic basis. When you get that “shallow” inner terrain of the body clean for the first time you’ll feel so amazing and know that everything I talked about here is legitimate. Deeper, more chron!c diseases are a resul*t of ignoring these outer body symptoms for decades on end, and the build up of toxicity ends up overloading the deeper inner terrain of the body.

    So improving your d!et starts the detoxification process and cleansing the colon with water effortlessly pulls out this toxicity/disease. That’s why the most powerful effective method to healing practically every single “disease” known to man is simply improving your d!et and cleansing your colon as much as you can. This is why when you go to the health institutes, they require that you cleanse your colon daily. This entire healing protocol is available in an article that I wrote here.

    So you want your “symptoms” to disappear? I’d suggest eating only whole foods and cleansing the colon on a periodic basis.

    The people who heal from disease are willing to do what the others are not willing to do!

    Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a pollution-free environment, where we drank only the purest of water and ate naturally untainted foods? Where the homes we lived in were free of chemicals and the air we breathed, water in which we swam, and even the clothes hugging our skin were clean of any artificial substances?

    Of course, this idealistic notion has probably never been the case, and is especially impractical today. That is why the next best thing we can do for our health is to cleanse our bodies of these toxins from time to time through various methods of detoxification.

    Detoxification refers to the elimination of poisons or toxins. Due to the huge amounts of today’s environmental contaminants, our bodies are in serious need of regular cleansing to reduce damage to our immune systems and metabolism. Detoxification is vital to maximize the body’s energy and to prevent chronic illness. It is also a time-honoured way to keep digestive elimination regular, circulation under control, and stress to a minimum. Detoxification both maintains good health and promotes healing from illnesses.

    Common methods of detoxification influenced by cultures around the world are described here. Some are physical approaches that speed toxin removal from tissues so they can be excreted. Others are plant or food based, which treat the body to loads of immune-boosting substances that inactivate toxins and enhance their elimination.

    Massage
    Massage, dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, is an excellent method to improve lymph movement and blood flow. That, in turn, aids in getting cellular waste products and accumulated toxins out of tissues, into the bloodstream, and to the kidneys where they are eliminated in urine.

    Melinda Pizzano, L.M.T., matches specific massage techniques to a client’s constitution. One of her favorites is a salt massage or salt glow. “I use this method to stimulate the large lymph glands and exfoliate the skin, as the skin is the largest organ of elimination.” She uses a blend of salt, oil, and an assortment of herbs and sugars during the massage, then rubs it off with hot towels. Melinda adds, “Swedish massage, which is a more vigorous rubbing technique that really stimulates the lymph and circulatory systems, might be better for someone else, while the lymphatic drainage technique might suit another individual.”

    Aromatic essential oils such as lemon and grapefruit enhance the detoxification process, as does regularity of treatments. Ms. Pizzano suggests massage be enjoyed on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis to ensure the treatments reach the body’s deepest layers, where unwanted substances build up over time.

    Heat treatments
    Hyperthermia techniques, which elevate body temperature slightly to remove toxins, have been used throughout history, such as by ancient Greek physicians, in the ornate bath complexes of the Romans, in sweat lodges of the Native Americans, and in the steam baths of the Scandinavians. These techniques are still very popular today. Steam baths, hot tubs, and saunas in particular are favourite ways to get your heart beating and your blood circulating, which improves toxin transfer from tissues to the bloodstream, then to the liver, which chemically alters many harmful substances into harmless ones.

    Further, according to authors Patricia J. Benjamin and Francis M. Tappan in Tappan’s Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques, “Steam rooms help clear the sinuses and relieve respiratory congestion. Steam also raises the body temperature and causes sweating.” A cold shower following a steam bath washes off toxins released in sweat and brings body temperature down to normal.

    Be sure to drink adequate amounts of water before, during, and after heat treatments. The powerful detoxification process takes place when the body reaches 101 to 103 degrees F. Note that one’s pulse rate should not exceed 130 or 140. Check with your physician to see if this technique is right for you.

    Skin brushing
    Dry skin brushing is another European technique that has been used for centuries. Not only does it remove toxins accumulated in dead skin cells, it enhances circulation. Dr. Bernard Jensen (author of Dr. Jensen’s Guide To Better Bowel Care) recommends in his book, “your daily regime should begin with skin brushing for a period of three to five minutes. I believe skin brushing is one of the finest of all ‘baths.’ No soap can wash the skin as clean as the new skin that you have under the old. You make a new top layer of skin every twenty-four hours. Skin brushing removes the old layer and lets this clean new layer come to the surface.” He recommends, “the whole body (except the face) should be brushed one-half hour after rising and prior to the morning bath or shower. You may wish to skin brush again before retiring for the night.”

    Use an all-natural vegetable fibre brush with a long handle to reach out-of-the-way places. Brush from the outermost points—the feet and hands—toward the centre of your body; brush bottoms of the feet, as nerve endings here effect the entire body. Brush across your upper back and down the front and back of your torso. Use lighter strokes over breasts and do not brush the nipples. Wash your brush every few weeks in water and let it dry. Feel the sensation of newly invigorated skin!

    Foods and beverages
    Certain foods and beverages aid in inactivating toxins or in removing them. These include fruits and fruit juices, fresh vegetable juices, chlorophyll-rich foods, herbal teas, and sea plants. For optimal results, these foods should be organically grown and consumed fresh.

    Blend or juice your favourite fruits in the morning for a detoxifying breakfast. Fruit juices speed up metabolism to release waste quickly and have an alkalising effect (acid-neutralising) on the blood; citrus fruits and their juices in particular are rich in alkaline salts, mainly potassium. High-fiber fruits aid digestive regularity and stabilise insulin levels. Together, these properties of fruits reduce fat storage, speed metabolism, and minimise sugar cravings. Fruits should be eaten by themselves, without protein or complex carbohydrates, and before noon for best energy conversion and cleansing benefits.

    Fresh vegetable juices provide the body with necessary vitamins, minerals, and enzymes to power the natural detoxifying activities of cells. For example, a combination of three carrots, three celery stalks, ½ bunch spinach, and ½ bunch parsley is high in potassium and is one of the most effective juices for cleansing blood and tissues, neutralising acids, and rebuilding cells.

    Leafy green vegetables have chlorophyll, a detoxifying agent that helps clear the skin, cleanse the kidneys, and cleanse and build the blood. Eating any chlorophyll-rich food will help to boost immunity, treat illness, and rid the body of unwanted substances. Spirulina (blue-green algae) and chlorella (green algae) have become popular supplements due to their extremely high chlorophyll content. Powdered concentrates of these green ‘superfoods’ may be purchased at your local health food store and added to fruit and vegetable juices.

    Sea plants (‘sea vegetables’) aid in detoxification by transforming toxic metals into salts that the body can eliminate. They also are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates, and proteins. Seaweed, dulse, kelp, nori, and wakame are examples. Two tablespoons of dry minced sea vegetables added daily to a bowl of miso soup is a wonderfully therapeutic dose.

    China introduced us to the miraculous green tea, which is high in antioxidant content and combats free radical damage to protect against degenerative diseases. It also boosts enzyme production in the body. It has antibiotic, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, and is highly valued as a cancer preventative.

    Milk thistle, one of the best liver cleansing tonics, used with honey by the Romans, is also rich in nutrients and antioxidants to prevent free radical damage. Burdock, known as the plant of longevity, is one of the best blood purifiers of the herbal world and its use dates back to ancient Greece. The leaves make a delightful medicinal addition to soups and salads, or chop it into vinegar to drizzle over green salads.

    When taking these herbs in tea form, drink over a long time period as opposed to all at once. This allows the tissues to absorb as much of the medicinal value as possible. Drink two to three cups daily for optimal medicinal effects.

    Exercise
    One of the most important detoxification methods is regular exercise. Exercise accelerates the removal of toxins through our largest organ of elimination, the skin, when we sweat. It also stimulates lymph flow, which depends solely on muscular movement (or massage). Lymph function is critical to our body’s ability to cleanse itself. Exercise also enhances metabolism and circulation. Almost any kind of exercise, from riding a bicycle to planting flowers in the garden, increases the circulatory system’s transportation of oxygen and nutrients to our cells, while carrying away toxins and wastes from tissues to the organs of elimination. Further, exercise counteracts the greater risk for some diseases, such as heart disease, that correlates with a sedentary lifestyle.

    Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise because it sends blood flowing to particular places in a tactical way. A shoulder stand, for example, gets blood flowing the opposite way from its usual course. Yoga poses, or asanas, help soothe the muscles and soften blocks of stress that have accumulated over time. Yoga also incorporates conscious breathing and meditation; just 20 minutes each day can do wonders not just for the body, but also the spirit.

    Breathing
    India’s Ayurvedic system of health utilises breathing techniques, or pranayama, to settle, balance, and detoxify the body. In the Ayurvedic tradition, prana refers to the vital life force, and pranayama is the process by which this vital force is increased.

    Certain breathing techniques enhance your body’s ability to eliminate toxins because detoxification is directly related to the delivery of oxygen to cells and removal of carbon dioxide.

    Try ‘calm belly breathing’ (breathing into the gravitational centre of the body to ease stress and anxiety). Start by lying down in relaxation pose: on your back with arms relaxed to the side and palms up, feet naturally splayed open, and eyes closed. (If you need to modify this pose due to pain in the lower back, simply bend the knees, leaning them against one another, or if the legs are extended, place a towel underneath the head and/or knees.) Now exhale without force while observing the navel fall. Breathe in and out through the nose for five minutes; meditate or mentally focus on the navel rising and falling during this period.

    Detox is so “HIP” right now. EVERYONE wants to detox! Howver, in my opinion, the majority of people in the “mainstream” don’t even really understand what detox is. They hear of a new detox product and they say, ‘I need to detox, I am going go buy that!’. However, they still eat poorly and so inevitably no lasting changes occur. True DEEP beneficial detox happens when a person improves their diet permanently. As far as I’m concerned, 99.95% of the detox products that are currently on the market are a COMPLETE JOKE!!! If a person thinks they are going to continue to eat fast food and take a “detox” pill, I just LAUGH! Instead, below are the top 12 most EFFECTIVE detox options, from my perspective.

    Please note: this article is based on anecdotal information and personal experience…

    I’ve said it SO many times before and I’ll say it again: NOTHING removes toxins and detoxifies the body more effectively than cleansing the colon. The Egyptians knew this, the Mayans knew this, and before the pharmaceutical drugs came along, it is documented that the Nurses and Doctors in N.America knew this too… If you do ANY of the following methods where cleansing the colon is mentioned and you DON’T do the colon cleansing, then I feel that the effectiveness rate drops by around 25 times.

    The TOP of the list is the MOST effective method from my point of view and the effectiveness decreases from there. The more effective the detox method, then the larger is the potential for it being HARSHER and harder to handle for your body, depending on your toxicity levels. It may be wiser to build up from lower down the list towards the most effective techniques, and supervision is recommended. I feel it is KEY to eliminate consuming processed commercial foods, or you are at GREAT risk of ending up with illness/diseases in the future.

    The Top 12 Detox Methods:

    1. 30 Day Juice Fast with 10 – 30 colon hydrotherapy sessions (enemas would be secondary choices) *ADVANCED!*

    2. 7 Day Juice Fast, while taking Vit-ra-tox’s Psyllium & Liquid Bentonite five times a day (every 3 hours), while doing a colonic in the morning and evening all 7 days. (Colema Board or multiple 4qt enemas would be secondary choices) *ADVANCED!*

So, it’s important to get that stuff out :-) Again, alongside any detox choices, it is KEY to eliminate processed commercial foods or you are at GREAT risk of ending up with disease/illnesses in the future.     Enough freshly-boiled water to fill your teacup or mug
    1 tablespoon real maple syrup
    Freshly-squeezed juice of half a lemon
    Cayenne pepper to taste
