10 Ways To Use Tea Tree Essential Oil For Health, Beauty & Cleaning

    By Jessica Cooper

Tea tree oil comes from the evergreen leaves of the Australian Melaleuca alternifolia tree. It has been known for its healing and disinfecting properties for over a century and a wealth of scientific evidence1 exists to support its effectiveness. It is one of nature’s finest antibiotics because it is so effective at killing bacteria.

    Health and Beauty Uses:

    1. Aromatherapy

Use a drop or two of the oil on a warm washcloth and inhale to treat colds, viruses, coughs, sunburn, toothaches, or problems caused by bacteria.

    2. Acne

Avoid using those expensive, unnatural, chemical-ridden acne treatments. Dab a drop of tea tree oil on a damp cotton ball or q-tip and apply to trouble spots. Make sure you dampen your applicator with water; do not use the tea tree oil alone, as it would be too potent on your delicate skin. You don’t want to deal with super dry spots on top of acne. However, mixed with water, your blemishes will be significantly reduced in a day… and, naturally.

    3. Dandruff

Tea tree oil is very effective against dandruff. It’s amazing that it can be used to combat acne, which is thought of as an oil issue, and dandruff, which is viewed as a dryness issue. To combat against dandruff, the key is the mix of oil to shampoo. Use 5% tea tree oil to shampoo. About 3-4 drops of oil into a whole bottle of your natural, scentless shampoo should do the trick. Do not put the oil directly onto scalp.

    4. Nail infections

Have a hangnail or a nail irritation? Dabbing a bit of oil onto the nail will act as an antibacterial but without causing irritation to the skin.

    5. Sinus infections

Tea tree oil is antiviral and antibacterial, making it great for any sort of infection of the respiratory system. Boil water and add a few drops of tea tree oil to the water. After removing the pot from heat, put a towel over your head and breathe in for 10-15 minutes.

    Cleaning Uses:

    6. General tea tree oil cleaning spray

You get the gist: Anything that needs disinfecting, cleaning, or balancing can benefit from tea tree oil. Combine 4-5 drops of oil with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Use to clean household surfaces like countertops and kitchen floors.

    7. Household antiseptic spray

Similar to above, but add double the drops (10 drops of oil) to 2 cups of water in a spray bottle for tough areas like the bathroom and sink. Even use to clean the bottoms of shoes for an antibacterial purpose.

    8. Mold remover

Use the concentration of antiseptic spray in #7 above, and spray on moldy areas, but do not wipe up or rise. Let it sit and it will take care of any problems.

    9. Laundry detergent

Add 3-4 drops of oil to your detergent for mold-prone items like chunky sweaters and wool. Tea tree oil is a powerful mold fighter.

    10. Air freshener

To make your own essential oil gel air freshener, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of clear gelatin powder, tea tree oil, a ½ cup of hot water, and clean, clear jars of your choice.

Stir together and heat the clear gelatin powder, approximately 20 drops of essential oil, and the water. Pour the liquid into clean jar(s) once the gelatin has melted. Put the jars in the refrigerator until the gel has set.

When purchasing: Make sure you purchase oil that comes in a dark glass bottle to ensure that the light does not reduce the oil’s potency.

One more note, never ingest the oil orally.

3 Key Essential Oils to Have in Your Home

    http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-7671/essential-oils-101.html

    Lavender

One of the most versatile oils, lavender is well known for its aromatic properties and ability to calm and relax the body and mind. It can also be used to relieve skin irritation (perfect for cold winter months) – and soothes cuts and burns. I always carry lavender and just used it this week to relieve a minor burn suffered at Starbucks, when my hot tea spilled. No redness, sting or inflammation occurred.

Lavender may also be added to favorite recipes and beverages to enhance flavor! Lavender water, tea and chocolate are my favorites (only in glass or stainless steel).

    Peppermint

Naturally refreshing, peppermint is a great way to achieve mentally clarity, reduce fatigue and increase energy before a workout. It aids digestion and can be added to tea, water or food. I always carry peppermint when I travel to relieve motion sickness (especially in India or NYC cabs!), energize after a long flight and relieve nasal congestion.

    Lemon

Also a very versatile oil, lemon can be used to clean and disinfect surfaces and packs a double punch as an incredibly uplifting and energizing scent for body and mind. The powerful antioxidant d-limonene supports healthy immune system function. Add to a variety of foods and beverages to create flavor. Lemon oil acts to alkalize the digestive tract and is a great substitute for lemon water when you don’t have real lemons to squeeze.

Here’s to a feast for the senses!

Stress – what will help me today?
    publication date: Sep 8, 2009

    author/source: TIna Sams

    From The Essential Herbal Magazine

There isn’t a season of the year that isn’t glorious, and they each come with their own set of awards and trials. For me, probably Autumn is a little more stressful than the others, because summer has been carefree and inexpensive, while now the cold weather is coming with the costs of heating, the vehicle needs to be maintained for winter, all the produce must be put up, the herbal preparations created, and this year, for me, the child off to college for the first time. It can be quite a lot at one time.

There are many herbs that can help ease and calm a stormy day, or even a long period of difficulty. In fact, in thinking about writing about these herbs, I looked back over an article that I wrote for a small publication over 10 years ago. In addition to the herbs that were at that time cutting-edge, there are several more that hadn’t come to the forefront yet. We will start with mild and go from there, listing a few herbs that can help right now. One would additionally be sure to get lots of rest, see that their vitamin and mineral requirements were met, and look into some deeply nourishing herbs for the nervous system, as well. Many of these are said to take days or weeks to make a difference, but I can always feel a shift right away.

My first line of defense is always Chamomile. I like to drink a cup of tea and that will usually help. It immediately helps me to drop the shoulders and let out a long breath. Another possibility is 20 or 25 drops of tincture, because often if you had time to sit and drink a cup of tea, you wouldn’t be stressed, right? If at all possible, a nice warm bath with a few drops (no more than 10) of Lavender essential oil OR a spray of essential oil mist on the pillow case before bed will help to put a bad day behind and let a new day get a decent start.

Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) tincture is a favorite for one of my friends. She uses it when her kids “get on her last nerve”, and suspects that’s how the herb got it’s name. This herb is well known for her helpfulness in menopause, but part of that is the way it helps with anxiety and … stress!

Next in line is a St. John’s Wort. It is made it into a tincture here each year and taken only as needed. Some people take it daily, although it should not be taken in conjunction with any prescribed MAOI inhibitors. We also keep Eleuthero (aka Siberian Ginseng) on hand. In any case, Eleuthero was tested in large block factories in Siberia. The workers in one building took the herb daily, while the next building did not. The workers using the herb were found to do better in every measurable way – absenteeism, quality of work, cheerfulness, etc. Scientists are unsure exactly how it works, but it is stimulates cells of the immune system and protects the nervous system. Some people feel that the two (SJW and Eleuthero) work very well together.

Of late, these remedies aren’t cutting the mustard for me. The duties of caregiver have fallen to me, and it is emotionally draining to say the least. Coincidentally, a few years ago I was looking for something for a friend who is a tax preparer. Four months out of the year the workload increases by (seriously) 1000% and the stress takes a visible toll.

Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) – also known as Tulsi – came up in my research. That year it so happened that I had purchased a Tulsi plant at an herb festival, and she was large and busy, perfect for a quart or so of tincture. He and I shared it, and it was the first time in many years that I heard him laugh in March. Seriously. We sometimes use it in tea form, too.
Besides helping with stress, Holy Basil is considered a tonic to the nerves, increases memory, is anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, immune stimulating, and acids contained in the herb change the way our bodies release cortisol and the way we react physically to stress. In India, Holy Basil is used for nearly all ills.

In addition, we use Mimosa (Albizzia julibrissin), also sometimes known as “the happiness herb”. It is also sometimes called “herbal Prozac”, which I don’t like at all, but it seems to get the point across, and some herbalists include it in formulas for grief. Sometimes when we are stressed it is because we are grieving the loss of something. If you’ve ever seen Mimosa flowers, they are happy little flowers, pink puffs that sit on top of the leaves in bunches. Oddly, every time I gather Mimosa flowers, I smell cotton candy. There is almost no scent to Mimosa, so it may be something about the color that clicks something in my brain… Mimosa helps to reduce anxiety and stress. The flowers are thought to increase happiness while the bark is more grounding.

We use a combination here at home. I use it daily, and when my 18 year old starts getting weepy or angry during certain parts of her cycle, I will offer her a bit of the blend.

Those are the things we use here at The Essential Herbal. Almost all of them are available on our website if you don’t have them growing at your house!

By the way, are your hives gone, Mapuana? How is your energy level now? – M

On Wed, Sep 1, 2010 at 12:40 PM, Mapuana wrote -
For the most part YESS!! I haven’t had to take the Benadryl for a few weeks now. That Basic Zapper helped so much with the parasites. At times I’ve had a very small dot of a hive reaction to something but other than that I’m verrry happy to have that experience/healing crisis under control. There are so many reasons why my body reacted the way it did and I’m not alone in that as far as transitioning to a raw food diet. Going from consuming toxins for decades then all of a sudden I’m consuming “major” cleansing and detoxification live foods and the body starts to cleanse itself and dumps all the toxins into my system that the liver and body is not capable of handing. Not to mention the parasites going nuts as I’m drawn to alot of anti-parasitic foods. One thing I’d advise anyone thinking of transitioning to a healthier live food regime is that you should also undergo colonics or some kind of cleansing regime at the start or as you go along or you may experience a healing crisis. At the moment I’m between cleanses from the Oxygen based cleanse from Global Healing Center and will start my first Liver Gallbladder Cleanse in a few days, rest, then do another Live Gallbladder/Parasite Cleanse and see from there. I just finished my first 6 Day Deep Level Cleanse, that’s I felt soo good and energetic yesterday I’m saving for the Terminator Zapper which helps you not only kill parasites, bacteria, fungi and viruses, but it also helps to eliminate heavy metals. From what Matt Monarch and Kevin Gianni says, it’s pretty much an experiment with the body and this life style. They still experience a healing crisis from time to time, even Angela. Everyone’s body will react differently. I’ve learned so much from this experience.

I know you said you love making DIY products D, so I take it you’re quite happy with the outcome of using DIY products? I just ran out of the Seventh Generation laundry soap and would like to try making the non-toxic liquid/gel laundry soap I saw on youtube, I’m incorporating Borax and Baking Soda in the laundry soap, and am using Spectrum’s Distilled Organic White Vinegar in the rinse as a fabric softener and to kill mites, bacteria, fungi.

    Good Morning Mary,

Has there been any improvement that you’ve noticed as compared to using the before DIY products. It’s about the 6 month mark so it’s a good time to review what works and what doesn’t. I’d like to make notes in the log that I keep. If and when we do workshops or speakings on the subject and lifestyle change, the information will be imperative when others ask for our help. I still get questions all the time and women are genuinely very interested in healthier cosmetics. I’ll send a video on how to make your own laundry powder or liquid, I prefer the liquid.

    > My energy level is pretty good these days, pretty amazing!! Life is good!!
My skin is much softer, smoother, smaller pores, more toned, firmer, a more even and balanced look if that makes sense. I had large areas, not spots, on my fore head where Melatonin was “over produced” which created dark pigments in the skin due to chemical reactions from medications. It looked as if I had been burnt or something, very noticeable. Since regularly using the honey to cleanse and lemon/lime juice to help lighten and exfoliate, it’s faded alot to give my face a more even, balanced look, maybe not so noticeable anymore. There are no new wrinkles and improvement in areas that tend to wrinkle. My body skin is alot softer and smoother, it looks and feels healthier. It feels happy! I really like all I’ve accomplished so far with the ingredients I’m using. I’ve continued to use the Carrot Seed EO but in very limited amounts like maybe 1-2 drops in a 1 oz. bottle of facial serum. With that ratio I haven’t had anymore issues of dryness and believe that it’s beneficial. I’ll give it another 6 months on this regime and routine and see then what I can improve, or if it’s even necessary.

I attest this dramatic improvement to the overall changes I’ve made. Keep in mind that some months back when I switched lifestyles, it was literally overnight. I never really transitioned. The upgrade/download came and I did a complete 360 degrees in what I put into my body, what I put on my body and most importantly, how I changed/upgraded my reality thru thoughts and actions.

Mapuana – Also, just having finished my first ever deep colon cleanse, I’m now seeing even more overall improvement. For me, the most important thing I’ve learned is that cleansing the colon, ridding ones self of parasites and detoxing from the accumulated toxins is imperative in working towards wellness in all aspects. Not just eating fresh live nutrient dense, high vibrational, high frequency life force energy foods. From my own so far experience , I now see the wisdom of that knowledge!

    Hi Mapuana,
I just finished reading all your body experiences. Wow! Congrats on going through all that cleansing. Geez – I’m with you and astounded by you. It’s weird how, all of a sudden you’re ready to do such a thing. And you’re like me – I did some fasting and cleasing, colonics, rested, did some more, and continued for many months! Gosh.
Right now I’m still using the zapper which I feel is really working. I like to feel the energy from it and can, literally, feel the slight buzz i get from it. I just had a parasite cleanse again tonight – thought maybe I was done, but, hey, it’s good to get them out of the deep tissues and organs or intestines, or wherever they’re coming from. My skin on my hands continues to heal with this, the diotamaceous earth I use every day, and the natural face serums, MSM lotion, natural body wash and shampoo, the dish soap and hand soap you sent us recipes for. I will never go back to chemicals again. How awful. This stuff is so wonderful, pure and simple. I love it and I love making it. I never get tired of re-filling the bottles.
I never really look at my wrinkles any more. They have definitely not increased, and perhaps are less. They were so deep – my skin has alot of healing to go through and it will take a long time. But my skin is so soft ,everywhere, and feels young and happy. I like to feel my skin, and it smells fantastic. Haven’t used deodorant in forever – except the 2 days I traveled to Oregon, which was weird! I experienced allergies and detoxing!
It was good to hear that the other rawfoodists experience more and more healing, also some crises occasionally. That sounds very human and correct. I’m glad they’re sharing.
Thanks again for all your recipes and all your sharing!
    love,
    Dorothy
Mapuana -I forgot that the Zappers are reputed to help skin tone and I’ve used it 24/7 for a month today. That would have contributed to the improvements I’ve noticed, besides the Oxygen colon cleansing.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential fatty Acids (EFA)

    http://www.advance-health.com/efa.html

Omega-3 fatty acids are a form of polyunsaturated fats, one of four basic types of fat that the body derives from food. (Cholesterol, saturated fat, and monounsaturated fat are the others.) All polyunsaturated fats, including the omega-3 fatty acids, are increasingly recognized as important to human health.

Eating too many foods rich in saturated fats has been associated with the development of degenerative diseases, including heart disease and even cancer. Polyunsaturated fatty acids, however, are regarded as healthy. Omega-3 fatty acids (found primarily in cold-water fish) fall into this category, along with omega-6 fatty acids, another type of polyunsaturated fatty acids found in grains, most plant-based oils, poultry, and eggs.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are termed essential fatty acids (EFAs) because they are critical for good health. However, the body cannot make them on its own. For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food, thus making outside sources of these fats “essential.”

Although the body needs both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to thrive, most people consume far more omega-6 fatty acids than omega 3 fatty acids. Ongoing research is consistently reporting new health benefits for the omega-3 fatty acids. Many experts now recommend consuming a better balance of these two EFAs. An ideal balance is believed to be a (1:1) one-to-one ratio of Omega-6 efa’s to Omega-3 efa’s. With the emphasis of vegetable cooking oils high in Omega-6 oils, most individuals are getting a ratio of about (26:1) rather than (1:1).
Different Types of Essential Fatty Acids

There are several omega-3 fatty acids including alpha linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and others. The human body cannot synthesize omega-3 fatty acids but can convert alpha linolenic acid into the other omega-3 oils. Alpha linolenic acid is therefore a nutrient essential for life and is sometimes called vitamin F. Alpha linolenic acid is found in dark green leafy vegetables, flax seed oil and certain vegetable oils. ALA from flaxseed oil is converted in the body to EPA and then DHA at an efficiency of (5%-10%), and (2%-5%) respectively. Additional sources of ALA with a high omega-3 to omega-6 ratio include chia seed oil, perilla oil, sachia inchi, purslane, lingon berry, sea buckthorn and hemp seed oil. The human body may be able to convert more ALA to EPA and DHA if the ratio of omega-6 oils to omega-3 oils in the diet is near (1:1).

The Omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA) are found primarily in oily cold-water fish such as tuna, salmon, and mackerel. Aside from fresh seaweed, a staple of many cultures, plant foods rarely contain EPA or DHA.

A special form of linoleic acid is Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a naturally-occurring polyunsaturated fatty acid. It is a group of isomers of linoleic acid, meaning that it is chemically identical but has the atoms arranged in a different patern than ordinary linoleic acid. The human body is unable to manufacture Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA, so it must be obtained from dietary sources. Foods highest in CLA include dairy products and meat from ruminant animals, such as beef, lamb, and veal. CLA has several health benefits including promotion of lean muscle development, reducing body fat, improving immune response, lowering cholesterol, and others. For the complete article on Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Click Here
Health Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Scientists made one of the first associations between omega-3 fatty acids and human health while studying the Inuit (Eskimo) people of Greenland in the 1970s. The Inuit consumed a very high fat diet but suffered far less from coronary heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus and psoriasis than their European counterparts. The fat from thfat diet was derived from whale, seal, and salmon. Researchers eventually reallized that these foods were all rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and the omega-3 fatty acids were providing real disease-countering benefits.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Improve Heart Health

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help keep cholesterol levels low, stabilize irregular heart beat, and reduce blood pressure. Researchers now believe that alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), one of the omega-3 fats, is particularly beneficial for protecting against heart and blood vessel disease, and for lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Omega-3 fatty acids are also natural blood thinners, reducing the “stickiness” of blood cells (called platelet aggregation), which can lead to such complications as blood clots and stroke.

An excellent source of ALA is flaxseed oil. Because it is polyunsaturated oil, ALA does not store well or tolerate the heat from cooking. For this reason some individuals grind their flax seeds to have fresh oil.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Help Reduce Hypertension

Studies of large groups of people have found that the more omega-3 fatty acids people consume, the lower their overall blood pressure level is. This was the case with the Greenland Eskimos who ate a lot of oily, cold-water fish.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Improve Autoimmune Diseases

Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties. Consumption of omega-3 oils improve rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Raynaud’s disease, and other autoimmune diseases. This is probably because the omega-3 fatty acids help the arteries, as well as many other parts of the body, stay inflammation free. EPA and DHA are successful at this because they can be converted into natural anti-inflammatory substances called prostaglandins and leukotrienes, compounds that help decrease inflammation and pain.

In numerous studies over the years, participants with inflammatory diseases have reported less joint stiffness, swelling, tenderness, and overall fatigue when taking omega-3 oils.

In 1998, an exciting review of well-designed, randomized clinical trials reported that omega-3 fatty acids were more successful than a placebo in improving the condition of people with rheumatoid arthritis. The research also showed that getting more omega-3 fatty acids enabled some participants to reduce their use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
    Omega-3 Fatty Acids Improve Depression

The brain is 60% fat and needs omega-3 fats to function properly. Now researchers have discovered a link between mood disorders and the presence of low concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids in the body. Apparently, omega-3 fats help regulate mental health problems because they enhance the ability of brain-cell receptors to comprehend mood-related signals from other neurons in the brain.

Clinical trials are underway to further investigate whether supplementing the diet with omega-3 fats will reduce the severity of such psychiatric problems as mild to moderate depression, dementia, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. The oil used to help the child with a degenerative nerve disorder in the popular film Lorenzo’s Oil was an omega-3 fatty acid.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Aid Cancer Prevention and Support

Preliminary research from the University of California, Los Angeles, suggests that omega-3 fatty acids may help maintain healthy breast tissue and prevent breast cancer. In a recent study, participants who supplemented their diet with fish oils produced lower quantities of a carcinogen associated with colon cancer than did a placebo group. More research is underway.
The Dangers of Saturated Fats and Trans Fats

Without a sufficient supply of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, the body will use saturated fat to construct cell membranes. The resulting cell membranes are less elastic, a situation that makes the heart muscle stiffer and less able to return to a resting state.

Trans fats are of particular concern from a health perspective. Trans fats are fats, usually pollyunsaturated oils, that have been chemically hydrogenated to convert them into saturated fats. They are found in margarine and in “hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated” oils. You see this term on the majority of food labels in the supermarket. Trans fats displace healthy fats and are believed to contribute to high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries and other health problems.
The Unique Nutritional Role of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a saturated fat that is different from other dietary saturated fats. The fats in coconut oil have short molecular chains. Recent research has shown that coconut oil does not contribute to higher cholesterol or heart disease. Coconut oil may also reduce weight gain because the shorter fat molecules are more easily metabolized. Most significantly, coconut oil contains about 50% Lauric Acid. Lauric acid has protective properties against many infectious organisms including lipid coated viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. For the complete article on coconut oil, Click Here
Balancing the Ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fats

Nutritionists recognize the importance of balancing omega-3 fatty acids with omega-6 fatty acids in the diet. Because most people on a typical Western diet consume far more omega-6-rich foods , the ratio is out of balance for almost everyone. For most Americans the emphasis now needs to be on increasing omega-3 fats and reducing omega-6 fats to make the ratio more even.
Dosage and Recommended Intake of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

There is no established recommended daily intake for omega-3 fats. However, it is clear that a healthy diet containing significant amounts of foods rich in omega-3 fats is necessary for optimum health. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids will naturally bring the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids back into a healthier, 2:1 or (optimally) a 1:1 balance.

This is best achieved by reducing the consumption of omega-6-rich foods and simultaneously increasing consumption of omega-3-rich foods. Omega-3 rich foods include Atlantic salmon and other fatty, cold-water fish, including herring, sardines, Atlantic halibut, bluefish, tuna, and Atlantic mackerel. Another good source of Omega-3 fats is wild game, including venison and buffalo. The best sources of alpha linoleic acid, ALA, is flaxseed oil, walnuts, leafy greens, hemp seed oil and purslane.

Omega-6 oils are derived from Safflower, Sunflower, Corn, Soya, Pumpkin seeds, and Wheatgerm. These are the oils that we generally need less of. Remember, however, that some Omega-6 oils are essential for optimum health.

For therapeutic supplementation, 2000 mg. of EPA and 1000 mg. of DHA per day is a common recommendation.
Omega-3 Oils and the Herpes Virus

Nutritional Support with omega-3 oils is important in helping cells resist infection with the herpes family of viruses and other similar organisms. Viruses have to penetrate the cell walls to reach the nucleus in order to reproduce. A healthy cell wall resists penetration while a weak cell wall is vulnerable.

Multiplication of the herpes virus may be associated with the release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes where it is stored as triglycerides. Arachidonic acid can be converted to inflammatory prostaglandins and prostanoids (inflammatory mediators) that cause itching, pain, and irritation. Supplementation with borage oil and fish oil blocks arachidonic acid release and provides an anti-inflammatory effect.
    Anti-Viral Properties of Fatty Acids

Research has demonstrated that unsaturated free fatty acids such as oleic, arachidonic or linoleic at concentrations of 5-25 µg/ml inactivate enveloped viruses such as herpes, influenza, Sendai, Sindbis within minutes of contact. At these concentrations the fatty acids are inocuous to animal host cells in vitro. Naked viruses, such as polio, SV40 or EMC are not affected by these acids.

US Patent 4,841,023 applies to the inactivation of viruses in blood plasma. According to the patent claims, unsaturated fatty acids with at least one double bond in the cis configuration and containing 16 to 20 carbon atoms are effective. The list includes 11-eicosenoic acid, arachidonic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, palmitoleic acid, elaidic acid, linolenic acid, gamma-linolenic acid, palmitic acid and arachidic acid.

Research has shown that short-chain and long-chain saturated fatty acids have no or a very small antiviral effect at the highest concentrations tested. Medium-chain saturated and long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, on the other hand, were all highly active against the enveloped viruses. The loss of infectivity was attributed to a disruption of the lipoprotein envelope of these virions, as observed in an electron microscope. Lauric and Capyric acid (from coconut oil) was shown to be the most effective at inactivating viruses.
Cautions and Contraindications for Omega-3 Oils

Omega-3 oils can reduce blood clotting and act as a blood thinner. If you are taking anti-coagulant drugs, have a bleeding disorder or are being treated for a medical condition, you should consult your physician before using Omega-3 supplements. Blood tests that measure clotting time can be used to ensure these nutrients are not reducing the clotting factors in your blood to abnormal levels.

The maximum safe daily dosage recommended by the United States Food And Drug Administration for a 70-kg human is a total of 3 g/day intake of EPA and HDA omega-3 fatty acids from conventional and dietary sources.
    Recommendations for Omega-3 Oil Supplements

Increasing ones dietary intake of fish is highly desirable. There are some concerns over the concentration of pollutants like PCB and Mercury in fish. The highest concentrations of contamination has been found in farmed fish and the lowest concentrations in ocean harvested fish. It is therefore advisable to select the ocean harvested fish. Supplements of DHA and EPA are readily available from fish sources. Another source is Krill Oil. Krill is a major food source for cold water fish. By using Krill you go one step down the food chain and reduce pollution levels significantly. The best source of ALA, alpha linoleic acid is flax seeds. The best way to get fresh flax seed oil is to get the seed and a grinder and make it as needed. Hemp seed oil has an optimum balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats.

The content of mercury in fish oil is not a concern because mercury is stored in the tissue, not in the oil. Many toxins, including PCB, Dioxin, pesticides, etc., however, are stored in the fat and are a serious concern. Because of this, the better suppliers of fish oil subject the oil to molecular distillation to remove these contaminants. This treatment does increase the cost a bit, but is more than worth it. The Ethyl EPA and Nordic Naturals oils displayed in the links below have been purified by molecular distillation.

A tip for you…if you cut a clove of garlic into and take out the core ( there’s a little center
core in every clove) you won’t have garlic breath because you can’t digest the core,
you body tries to get rid of it through you breath and skin.
You might already know that but I just found it out recently.

Also, a website you might enjoy checking out is www.essentialwholesale.com

I hope that link works. If it doesn’t, just copy and paste it. There’s lots of information
    and fun things to read.
They have every kind of essential oil you can imagine and there are tons of things you
can buy for all kinds of formulas etc. It is wholesale but anyone can buy there.
Their products are as pure as you can get. They don’t use harmful ingredients.
I use several of their products and they are mild and just really nice.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the home page to the end…click on product index
    ( it’s small writing)
and it will be very easy to find out all the products that they have. ~ I always use the index
to to do my shopping there.

In one of your videos, you mentioned Coastal Scents… I use them too.
I make a line of mineral make up and I don’t use any harmful ingredients in my formulas.
I hope you enjoy Essential Wholesale.
