    • Drinking Water while eating is a Big No No!

      01-Feb-2009

It’s very common that people drink water between their meals but research has said that a small amount of liquid during meals should be okay but drinking a lot of water, juice, or soda can cause digestion problems. Drinking water and other fluids can cause dilution of stomach acids and digestive enzymes, making them less effective at breaking down food. Whenever possible, it is best to drink fluids before and two hours after meals as this helps uptake of nutrients and move bowels. Reducing the amount of salt and spices added to foods is helpful in reducing the need to drink fluids with meals.

    • Effects of Drinking water during meal:

      • Liquids taken during meals can dilute digestive enzymes and stomach acids and these are essential to break down the food and absorb nutrients. As it’s harder to break down the food, the stomach may produce more acids, which could result in heartburn or acid reflux. This could possible put more pressure on the small intestines as well because the food is passed along from the stomach without being broken enough.

      • Drinking lots of water during meals can affect the insulin level in the blood. When people drink lots of water during meals, it’s believed that it increases the blood sugar faster – as if we eat high glycemic index food* – and it increases insulin secretory as well. The more insulin is released, the more fat it’s likely to store in the body. Because the reserve of the liver and the muscles are limited, the more fat is generated.

    1 gallon cold water
1 cucumber, peeled and sliced if it’s not organic. Its skin contains a high percentage of vitamin A, so should not be peeled off.
2 -3 slices fresh lemon, optional
    2-3 mint sprigs, optional
    ice cubes, optional

Place fruit in water. Chill 1 hour, if desired.
For a pitcher, just peel and slice one cucumber, cover with water and ice, chill and enjoy! It’s thirst-quenching and cooling properties are refreshing. It acts as an anti-oxidant,regulates the body’s blood pH, neutralizing acidity.

    http://www.juicing-for-health.com/cucumber-benefits.html

    health benefits of cool cucumber:

Acidity: The alkalinity of the minerals in cucumber juice effectively helps in regulating the body’s blood pH, neutralizing acidity. The juice is also soothing for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.

Blood pressure: Like celery, this colorless drink can help regulate blood pressure because of its minerals and traces of sodium.

Connective tissues, building: The excellent source of silica contributes to the proper construction of connective tissues in our body as in the bones, muscles, cartilage, ligaments and tendons.

Cooling: During dry and hot weather, drink a glass of cucumber + celery juice. It wonderfully helps to normalize body temperature.

Diuretic: Cucumber juice is diuretic, encouraging waste removal through urination. This also helps in the dissolution of kidney stones.

Fever: The temperature regulating properties in cucumber juice makes it a suitable drink when you have a fever.

Inflammation: The Chinese think that cucumbers are too “cooling” and not suitable for people with rheumatism. But we know now that cucumber can help counter uric acids that are causing inflammation in joints. When cucumber is taken it does its cleaning work at the joints, thus stirring up pain as it eliminates the uric acid. This means it also help other inflamed conditions like arthritis, asthma, and gout.

Hair growth: The silicon and sulfur content in cucumber juice makes it especially helpful in promoting hair growth. Drink it mixed with carrot, lettuce or spinach juice.

Puffy eyes: Some people wake up in the morning with puffy eyes, probably due to too much water retention in the body (or having cried to sleep). To reduce the puffiness, lie down and put two slices of cucumber on the eyes for a good ten minutes.

Skin conditions: The high amount of vitamin C
and anti-oxidants in cucumber makes it an important ingredient in many beauty creams for treating eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc.

Sunburn: When there is a sunburn, make cucumber juice and rub it on the affected area for a cooling and healing effect.

Water retention: It supplies the necessary electrolytes and restores hydration of the body cells, thus reducing water retention.

    Here’s the instructions:
First I dissolve 4 tablespoons of raw sugar in a cup of filtered hot boiled water and let that cool off. Then I add that cup of sugar water to 5 cups of filtered water and add the kefir grains- all in a 1/2 gallon glass mason jar. I toss in a dried fig or dried apricot. Cover with cloth napkin and rubberband and wait 24-48 hours or until piece of dried fruit rises to the top. Strain out the kefir water using a plastic or bamboo strainer into a new jar (no metal can ever touch the kefir grains and always make sure your water is filtered- no chlorine). Then add the juice of an orange, or a few slices of mango, pineapple, or a little strawberry puree, etc to the kefir water. (lots of options to flavor your water after it’s been strained) and let ferment 8-12 hours. You can use a special jar that with a tight sealing lid but watch out for too much pressure- it can explode. We use a jar with a rubber gasket but we don’t clamp the lid on tight- we just put some books and a rock on top of the lid. After the second ferment is complete, strain into a clean jar with snug lid and place in fridge. You can drink right away but it is better after several hours in the fridge.
Forgot to mention- you can make this daily! Just start up a new batch every time you do the process for the second (fruit) ferment for the first one. Or, you can store kefir grains in the fridge in a jar of sugar water for a couple of weeks. Or, you can freeze or dehydrate your grains. It may take a while to “wake them up” if they’re been in the fridge too long, and there is a process for reconstituting them if they’ve been dehydrated (there’s a website for that)

    Water question, PS
    Hi Dorothy,

I love your videos so much, thank you for sharing!!!

May I ask you a question about your ionized water?

I’m living in Germany in Munich and we have had very good tap water here (from a nature reserve) – up to now. Because of excessive rainfall they recently started chlorinating the water after many years of no need to do this. So I dug out my water filter from the cellar but this event raised the water question again for me. What is the best drinking water?

I’m thinking of distiling the water because some people say that water with very little mineral salts in it (like Volvic) is the best for detoxing. But I also heard about ionized water (which is very uncommon in Germany and the appliances are so very expensive).

Did you _notice_ any difference since you use ionized water or is it just a theroretical consideration? How strong does the water ionizer have to be (which pH is necessary?).
And everything seems to be so contradictory:

On the one hand some people say that most of the minerals from the water cannot be used by the body so that it has to get rid of them. On the other hand the alkaline water is enriched with calcium ions but is said to support detoxification.

And of course the opinion depends on whom you ask: Either people who want to sell distillers or ion exchangers or people who want to sell water ionizers..

I’d so much love to hear your opinion, please do me the favour and answer this mail!

    TIA and love from
    Corinna

Hi Corinna, What great questions! The biggest knowledge to hit me lately was that every problem, disease in the body is due inherently to over-acidity. When I learned that, everything fell into place. We got this ionizer, refurbished, for $900, from Lifewater, and immediately my Ph levels went to the correct levels. My b.p. shot down,, I mean SHOT DOWN from 155/95 to 100;s/70s. 3 people commented how my skin glows. I am so happy! And to provide this water for my teenage son, and my husband and my pets, gives me an invaluable glow.
About the minerals – I personally add a couple grains of Himalayan crystal salt to my water everyday to help mineralize the body. So if you’re going to distill, you could add mineral salts back in!
To answer your last question – clean water is at around 7.0 on the ph level, and alkaline water is above that to 11.5. The ionizers have buttons so you can choose which you’d like, even down to the acid water for cleaning. And even the acid waters are purified 9 times, so to wash your face and brush your teeth with it is what makes them glow. Cool!
Just get that chlorine out of your water, if nothing else. That’s how we started, with a normal filter.
    Good to talk with you!
    Dorothy

And from my sister, M, who got her purifier a week later than I did:
There is a ton of great information on the websites we looked at before we bought ours. One could probably get a water check for your area online too like we can in the US.

I will say that I am pretty sure it was specifically the water at work where they probably didn’t filter it at all that was making me feel bad and giving me daily heartburn and occasional headaches. My diet was 95% alkaline. Once I left that job and simultaneously started using the filter, the heartburn and headaches went away and I tested alkaline again where I had been testing acidic. There was very little that I was eating that was not alkaline so for me it was clearly the water at work that was the problem.

I have never used distilled water but don’t know how that could be good for detoxing. Before one spends any money on a water purifier of any kind, one could probably make more of a difference by making your diet much more alkaline. That would start a natural detox and give you all the vitamins you need and would be cheaper than buying a water purifier. All one needs is one of the hundred free alkaline/acidic food charts off the internet.

The same sites that gave us the water information might send a free saliva ph testing strip or one could buy them online so you could see if you were more acidic after drinking her water than how you tested in the morning.
I am very happy I bought it.(the ionizer) I want to operate at the highest frequency I can and the kicker was reading the county water report for my zip code. Besides you had already been drinking samples of the water so I knew it would do good work.

    Love
    M

    Corrina -
    Hi Dorothy,

of course you can put my questions on your blog! But may I ask some more?

If I already eat a highly raw food, is it then necessary to drink alkaline water additionally?

And what pH would you recommend? The appliances are very different in price, the ones from one manufacturer here in Germany differ in price depending on performance, does it have to be the most expensive one?

And how long did it take until you noticed an effect? I ask because I could buy ionized water from one provider to test it before buying an appliance, maybe this would be a good idea.

And why do you use the acid water for your teeth? My idea is that over time this could damage the enamel…

And do you think ionizing is better than distilling? Probably yes, otherwise you wouldn’t use an ionizer…

Oh, all this is so difficult! But it is very valuable for me to talk to you as a real user of an ionizer, thank you very much!

    Corinna
    Hi Corinna,
    Thanks!
    To answer your questions:
I eat a high raw diet, but the b.p. didn’t go down until I switched to alkaline water, and my skin didn’t glow! It makes sense because, of all the foods and juices I consume, water is the most thing I consume during the day.

An pH level is considered acidic when it reaches a level below 7. So you’d want a machine that can get your body at 7 or a little above.

The machine doesn’t have to be the most expensive. However, the plates inside differ in width according to how expensive the product is. Look at warranties, too. I got mine because I’d been taking the water for free and noticed the change within one week!

I only use the acid water on my teeth at the end of brushing, perhaps once a week.

I do think it’s better than distilling. Drinking ionized water is like drinking glacier water, with all the minerals intact, yet purified!

Just my thoughts, it does take some research, but it was sure worth it! I look forward to more and more healing in my family!
    Dorothy
