Join us for The Fall Whole Health Warrior Green Juice Fast and Cleanse

Last week I shared the first ten tips from the “Twenty Tips For Healthy Raw Eating” section of my book “Raw Emotions”. This week we shall dive into the remaining ten tips; N.B. these tips are in NO particular order – enjoy
*Be Cautious of ‘Overlapping’
After consuming anything, leave time to finish digesting that before ingesting more. Otherwise, if you’re still digesting some mango then eat a nut burger, you overlap digest!ve tasks and create issues. Ideally, eat fruit or drink veggie juice before a meal, on an empty stomach (for better absorption), then eat about thirty minutes later. Avoid fruit as dessert, or it gets stuck behind other foods and ferments.
*Avoid Eating Late at Night
Evening time is commonly recognised as the time of weakest digestion, in Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, etc. Aim to stop eating at least three hours before you sleep, to give the body time to digest. Consider having your biggest meal of the day in the middle of the day. In terms of weight loss too, eating complex food combinations late at night makes releasing fat more challenging.
*Find Your Balance
Maintain a good balance of fruit, greens and fats in your intake, for optimal health. Fruits are ‘aggressive’ cleansers; eating lots of fruit can foster mood swings, anger, spaciness, ungroundedness etc., especially if you’re not very active. Understand what you’re doing to your body. Read Matt Monarch’s book Raw Success (especially ‘The Blo0d Gas Theory’) for more on balance and detox.
*Experimentation
Be open to trying new foods. If you’ve never tried barberries before, how will you know if you like them, or if your body ‘needs’ anything in them? Find satisfying new alternatives for your old favourites: e.g. cheese & crackers = dip & flax crackers now. Try out one or two new foods weekly. You may find that foods you didn’t like before now taste nice to you, as your taste buds change.
*Detox Gently
If you’re releasing fat, you’re releasing toxins. You might feel weighed down/spacey/out of energy/depressed, etc., as toxins enter the bloodstream and potentially ‘re-tox’ you. You can help your body move the waste out with colon cleansing, powdered enzymes, daily green juices and maybe even taking zeolites. Consuming plenty of greens helps the body balance, so it can release even those common ‘stubborn last ten pounds’.
*Organic and WildOrganic foods have a much higher nutrient and enzyme content. Using non-organic produce is actually harmful for you and the environment. Choose organic whenever possible, especially with water-rich produce like lettuce/celery/strawberries. Foraging your own wild food for free is a fabulous skill to develop. The vitality in fresh wild greens far exceeds sh0p-bought greens, even if they are organic.
*Supplements
Healthy raw foods and juices can be your ‘medicine’ now. There are also a few supplements you may find beneficial. Here are four I take regularly: probiotics to support my intestinal flora; enzymes to support every process of my body; kelp to support my thyroid; B-12 tablets as a ‘back-up’ in case my food/intestinal flora aren’t providing plenty of this vitamin. All these products are available from the RawReform Store.
*Raw Food Tr@vel
On trips, take heavier/dense/dried foods like nuts, seeds, flax crackers, goji berries, seaweed, chia seeds and so on. Then grab fresh produce and juices as and when you can. You might also want to tr@vel with a little ‘mag!c bullet’ blender, to make dips/sauces/dressings. Tr@vel with green powder, such as the product ‘Greener Grasses’. It’s always good to have green powders on hand, especially if you can’t find fresh organic greens.
*Stimulants/Suppressants
It’s rare to see raw foodists drink alcoh0l, coffee, black tea or colas/sodas. These items all sap the body’s natural energy flow. Caffeine stimulates our adrenals, generating a false energy boost that ultimately drains us more. Alcoh0l places a huge strain on the whole body. Ceasing/minimising the use of these, along with other drugs – both recreational and prescribed – can greatly enhance health.
*Bless Your Food
The things you eat are about to literally ‘become you’ – try saying ‘hello’ first! If you pause before eating to bless your meal, give gratitude and visualise where it came from, this helps make the food less anonymous. It can also help you to centre, become present and relax, instead of ‘diving in’ to a meal, barely noticing the contents and eating quickly. Raise the vibration of your food with love and blessings.

Twenty Tips For Healthy Raw Eating – Part 1
Last week saw the end of the recent Raw Emotions Study Group, after 14 weeks of weekly readings and discussions together. I personally really enjoyed the process – thanks SO much to all of you who participated
(The next upcoming Raw Emotions course is with the Academy for Optimal Living – read on below…)One of the very last sections that we read in the Study Group struck me as smthg potentially very useful to share here with y’all. It is an appendix of the book called “Twenty Tips For Healthy Raw Eating” and my intention is to share the first ten tips on the list this week, followed by the second half next week (N.B. the tips are in NO particular order) – enjoy
There are many ways to eat raw and the following is merely a simple set of guidelines that you may find useful. It is always wise to experiment for yourself and see what feels good to you. There are plenty of other resources out there to tap into for more information on these matters. For example, Matt Monarch’s book Raw Success gives an excellent overview on how eating raw affects the phys!cal body.
*Don’t Eat Anything That Doesn’t Rot
Processed foods, made with all kinds of preservatives and chemicals to prolong their ‘shelf life’, may take many years to break down, if ever. See shocking evidence of this on YouTube.com, where the ‘Bionic Burger’ video shows anscreen shot 2011-09-12 at 9.40.42 am.png intact collecti0n of fast-food burgers dating back to 1989. These ‘foods’ haven’t rotted, e ven after years. Imagine what things like this do inside your body.
*Choose Gluten-Free Foods
Wheat, rye, barley and oats – as well as spelt, couscous and kamut, to a lesser degree – all contain gluten. The protein gluten is a common food allergen; it clogs you up, slows digestion and is an intestinal irritant. Wheat flour mixed with water becomes glue paste – do you want to eat that…? Healthy alternatives include amaranth, buckwheat, corn/maize, rice, quinoa and millet, if you eat grains at all.
*Animal Products
It’s not necessary to be vegan to benefit from being raw. People can feel healthy on animal products, provided they’re raw – it’s cooked/pasteurised animal foods that really cause a lot of damage. Eating cooked meat is like eating leather; it’s very dense to digest. Pasteurised dairy is highly mucus-forming, acidifying and mineral-leaching. All ‘ethics’ aside, it’s the life force of raw animal foods that can nourish people.
*Eat Whole Foods
Processed starches, refined sugars, trans-fats (manufactured, partially hydrogenated fats with long shelf lives, e.g. margarine) and so on cannot be easily recognised or used by the body. Aim for whole foods straight from the Earth instead (cooked if you like). Many vegetarians/vegans don’t look so healthy, as they replace animal products with processed foods like pastas, bread etc. Remember: ‘The middle aisles will kill you’!
*Vegetable Juice
Drink veggie juice daily for optimal health. Use a range of vegetables, especially leafy greens. Veggie juice helps our body become more alkaline and offers incredibly fresh, highly absorbable nutrients. See Norman Walker’s Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices book for more info. Drink at least one green veggie drink daily – preferably fresh juice – maybe a green smoothie, or even just green powder in water/coconut water.
*Mineral-Dense Foods
Most people are chronically demineralised, a resu1t of both poor food choices and topsoil erosion. To balance out, consume lots of foods like seaweeds, seeds and nuts, chia, maca, dark green leafy vegetables, green powders, sprouts/greens grown with ocean water solution, etc. You can also supplement minerals if a blo0d/hair analysis shows a deficiency – take the angstrom or colloidal forms.
*Sprouts and Seaweeds
These are two major health keys for a modern raw foodist. Sprouts are packed with enzymes, are very easy and cheap to grow and give year-round fresh nourishment, anywhere. Seaweeds contain all the ocean minerals, including plenty of iodine, helping balance low thyroid activity. Nori and dulse are popular; I also love Sea Spaghetti and wakame. We sell many seaweed products in the RawReform Store.
*At Least 50% Raw
If at least half of what you eat is fresh raw food, you’ll be on a healing path. That’s 50% by the weight of the food and not the volume. (A salad weighs much less than pasta with meatballs, though they may cover half a plate each.) Of the raw foods you consume, also aim for at least 50% of those to be fresh/living raw foods, rather than dehydrated/packaged products.
*Food Combining
For digest!ve ease, eat simple combinations. Wild animals usually eat mono-meals. If we use five ingredients or fewer in meals, it’s easier to digest. This can be refined over time. A few basic ideas: don’t eat nuts and seeds, avocadoes, etc. (fats) with your fruits (sugars), or starchy veggies (e.g. yams) with either. Green leafy veggies combine well with everything. Keep melons separate from all other food.
*Blending
Some people find raw foods hard to digest; they may have weak stomach acid or not be used to much fibre. Sweet or savoury ‘pre-digested’ blended meals help, by breaking fibre down, making nutrient access easier. Few people chew well; blending food is like having the blender chew for you. Be sure to still chew smoothies in your mouth, though. Drinking celery juice daily is also great for raising up stomach acid.

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a pollution-free environment, where we drank only the purest of water and ate naturally untainted foods? Where the homes we lived in were free of chemicals and the air we breathed, water in which we swam, and even the clothes hugging our skin were clean of any artificial substances?
Of course, this idealistic notion has probably never been the case, and is especially impractical today. That is why the next best thing we can do for our health is to cleanse our bodies of these toxins from time to time through various methods of detoxification.
Detoxification refers to the elimination of poisons or toxins. Due to the huge amounts of today’s environmental contaminants, our bodies are in serious need of regular cleansing to reduce damage to our immune systems and metabolism. Detoxification is vital to maximize the body’s energy and to prevent chronic illness. It is also a time-honoured way to keep digestive elimination regular, circulation under control, and stress to a minimum. Detoxification both maintains good health and promotes healing from illnesses.
Common methods of detoxification influenced by cultures around the world are described here. Some are physical approaches that speed toxin removal from tissues so they can be excreted. Others are plant or food based, which treat the body to loads of immune-boosting substances that inactivate toxins and enhance their elimination.
Massage
Massage, dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, is an excellent method to improve lymph movement and blood flow. That, in turn, aids in getting cellular waste products and accumulated toxins out of tissues, into the bloodstream, and to the kidneys where they are eliminated in urine.Melinda Pizzano, L.M.T., matches specific massage techniques to a client’s constitution. One of her favorites is a salt massage or salt glow. “I use this method to stimulate the large lymph glands and exfoliate the skin, as the skin is the largest organ of elimination.” She uses a blend of salt, oil, and an assortment of herbs and sugars during the massage, then rubs it off with hot towels. Melinda adds, “Swedish massage, which is a more vigorous rubbing technique that really stimulates the lymph and circulatory systems, might be better for someone else, while the lymphatic drainage technique might suit another individual.”
Aromatic essential oils such as lemon and grapefruit enhance the detoxification process, as does regularity of treatments. Ms. Pizzano suggests massage be enjoyed on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis to ensure the treatments reach the body’s deepest layers, where unwanted substances build up over time.
Heat treatments
Hyperthermia techniques, which elevate body temperature slightly to remove toxins, have been used throughout history, such as by ancient Greek physicians, in the ornate bath complexes of the Romans, in sweat lodges of the Native Americans, and in the steam baths of the Scandinavians. These techniques are still very popular today. Steam baths, hot tubs, and saunas in particular are favourite ways to get your heart beating and your blood circulating, which improves toxin transfer from tissues to the bloodstream, then to the liver, which chemically alters many harmful substances into harmless ones.Further, according to authors Patricia J. Benjamin and Francis M. Tappan in Tappan’s Handbook of Healing Massage Techniques, “Steam rooms help clear the sinuses and relieve respiratory congestion. Steam also raises the body temperature and causes sweating.” A cold shower following a steam bath washes off toxins released in sweat and brings body temperature down to normal.
Be sure to drink adequate amounts of water before, during, and after heat treatments. The powerful detoxification process takes place when the body reaches 101 to 103 degrees F. Note that one’s pulse rate should not exceed 130 or 140. Check with your physician to see if this technique is right for you.
Skin brushing
Dry skin brushing is another European technique that has been used for centuries. Not only does it remove toxins accumulated in dead skin cells, it enhances circulation. Dr. Bernard Jensen (author of Dr. Jensen’s Guide To Better Bowel Care) recommends in his book, “your daily regime should begin with skin brushing for a period of three to five minutes. I believe skin brushing is one of the finest of all ‘baths.’ No soap can wash the skin as clean as the new skin that you have under the old. You make a new top layer of skin every twenty-four hours. Skin brushing removes the old layer and lets this clean new layer come to the surface.” He recommends, “the whole body (except the face) should be brushed one-half hour after rising and prior to the morning bath or shower. You may wish to skin brush again before retiring for the night.”Use an all-natural vegetable fibre brush with a long handle to reach out-of-the-way places. Brush from the outermost points—the feet and hands—toward the centre of your body; brush bottoms of the feet, as nerve endings here effect the entire body. Brush across your upper back and down the front and back of your torso. Use lighter strokes over breasts and do not brush the nipples. Wash your brush every few weeks in water and let it dry. Feel the sensation of newly invigorated skin!
Foods and beverages
Certain foods and beverages aid in inactivating toxins or in removing them. These include fruits and fruit juices, fresh vegetable juices, chlorophyll-rich foods, herbal teas, and sea plants. For optimal results, these foods should be organically grown and consumed fresh.Blend or juice your favourite fruits in the morning for a detoxifying breakfast. Fruit juices speed up metabolism to release waste quickly and have an alkalising effect (acid-neutralising) on the blood; citrus fruits and their juices in particular are rich in alkaline salts, mainly potassium. High-fiber fruits aid digestive regularity and stabilise insulin levels. Together, these properties of fruits reduce fat storage, speed metabolism, and minimise sugar cravings. Fruits should be eaten by themselves, without protein or complex carbohydrates, and before noon for best energy conversion and cleansing benefits.
Fresh vegetable juices provide the body with necessary vitamins, minerals, and enzymes to power the natural detoxifying activities of cells. For example, a combination of three carrots, three celery stalks, ½ bunch spinach, and ½ bunch parsley is high in potassium and is one of the most effective juices for cleansing blood and tissues, neutralising acids, and rebuilding cells.
Leafy green vegetables have chlorophyll, a detoxifying agent that helps clear the skin, cleanse the kidneys, and cleanse and build the blood. Eating any chlorophyll-rich food will help to boost immunity, treat illness, and rid the body of unwanted substances. Spirulina (blue-green algae) and chlorella (green algae) have become popular supplements due to their extremely high chlorophyll content. Powdered concentrates of these green ‘superfoods’ may be purchased at your local health food store and added to fruit and vegetable juices.
Sea plants (‘sea vegetables’) aid in detoxification by transforming toxic metals into salts that the body can eliminate. They also are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates, and proteins. Seaweed, dulse, kelp, nori, and wakame are examples. Two tablespoons of dry minced sea vegetables added daily to a bowl of miso soup is a wonderfully therapeutic dose.
China introduced us to the miraculous green tea, which is high in antioxidant content and combats free radical damage to protect against degenerative diseases. It also boosts enzyme production in the body. It has antibiotic, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, and is highly valued as a cancer preventative.
Milk thistle, one of the best liver cleansing tonics, used with honey by the Romans, is also rich in nutrients and antioxidants to prevent free radical damage. Burdock, known as the plant of longevity, is one of the best blood purifiers of the herbal world and its use dates back to ancient Greece. The leaves make a delightful medicinal addition to soups and salads, or chop it into vinegar to drizzle over green salads.
When taking these herbs in tea form, drink over a long time period as opposed to all at once. This allows the tissues to absorb as much of the medicinal value as possible. Drink two to three cups daily for optimal medicinal effects.
Exercise
One of the most important detoxification methods is regular exercise. Exercise accelerates the removal of toxins through our largest organ of elimination, the skin, when we sweat. It also stimulates lymph flow, which depends solely on muscular movement (or massage). Lymph function is critical to our body’s ability to cleanse itself. Exercise also enhances metabolism and circulation. Almost any kind of exercise, from riding a bicycle to planting flowers in the garden, increases the circulatory system’s transportation of oxygen and nutrients to our cells, while carrying away toxins and wastes from tissues to the organs of elimination. Further, exercise counteracts the greater risk for some diseases, such as heart disease, that correlates with a sedentary lifestyle.Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise because it sends blood flowing to particular places in a tactical way. A shoulder stand, for example, gets blood flowing the opposite way from its usual course. Yoga poses, or asanas, help soothe the muscles and soften blocks of stress that have accumulated over time. Yoga also incorporates conscious breathing and meditation; just 20 minutes each day can do wonders not just for the body, but also the spirit.
Breathing
India’s Ayurvedic system of health utilises breathing techniques, or pranayama, to settle, balance, and detoxify the body. In the Ayurvedic tradition, prana refers to the vital life force, and pranayama is the process by which this vital force is increased.Certain breathing techniques enhance your body’s ability to eliminate toxins because detoxification is directly related to the delivery of oxygen to cells and removal of carbon dioxide.
Try ‘calm belly breathing’ (breathing into the gravitational centre of the body to ease stress and anxiety). Start by lying down in relaxation pose: on your back with arms relaxed to the side and palms up, feet naturally splayed open, and eyes closed. (If you need to modify this pose due to pain in the lower back, simply bend the knees, leaning them against one another, or if the legs are extended, place a towel underneath the head and/or knees.) Now exhale without force while observing the navel fall. Breathe in and out through the nose for five minutes; meditate or mentally focus on the navel rising and falling during this period.

For years now I have been taking ‘Original Quinton Hypertonic’, which is now called ‘QuintEssential’. This product hasn’t been readily available to the general public without the assistance of a health practit!oner making the actual purchase… until now.
As many of you know, I am a big fan of Dr. Norman Walker, who was the only Raw Food Pioneer I know of who made it to the 100-year mark.I feel that one of the reasons Dr. Walker lived so long was because he strategized his nutrient intake in many different ways, to make sure that he got everything his body required.
For example, one of the key things that Dr. Norman Walker did to make sure he got all the nutrients required for his body was drinking various different kinds of vegetable juices, on a daily basis. He scientifically broke down the vitamin and mineral composition of each vegetable to make sure that he got everything he needed on a daily basis. Since he studied practically every raw food and the nutrients that they all contained, he determined that there were certain key minerals that were not available in the vegetable kindgom. Therefore, he also ate things like seaweeds, for example kelp and dulse. Additionally, he took a homeopathic zinc product, because zinc is used in practically every process of the body and it isn’t the easiest mineral to obtain.
Lastly and most importantly, Dr. Norman Walker took in clean ocean seawater minerals on a daily basis. He actually squirted a few drops of these ocean minerals into the distilled water that he drank and he also would sometimes squirt some drops onto his salad. He stated that the ocean contains all of the trace minerals that the human body requires.
In Dr. Norman Walker’s books, he describes all of these practices and he actually breaks down all raw foods to outline the nutrients they contain. He teaches you how to strategize your food intake just like he successfully did for himself. I am a big fan of his books, and I highly recommend buying all seven of his books by clicking HERE; they are only about $9 each.
Before I discovered QuintEssential (Quinton), I was taking a product called ‘OceanGrown’s Ocean Solution’ on a daily basis, just like Norman Walker did. It was the only “clean” ocean water source that I had ever found. It is designed for feeding plants/vegetation all the trace minerals, but I used it in very small quantities in my personal intake, just like Dr. Norman Walker did. After the recent reactor incidences in Fukishima, I got concerned that the OceanGrown water supply in the Northern Hemisphere might have been affected in an adverse way. Diatomaceous Earth [Food Grade], 2.5lb
Another product that I am really excited about is our new food grade Diatomaceous Earth. With new products, what tends to happen is that I start to hear of an item here and there from customers and friends. After I hear about it so many times, I start to research. I kept hearing about Diatomaceous Earth over and over again, so I spent a few days studying it… and am I glad that I did! Our dogs currently seem to have picked up fleas and deep-down I know that Diatomaceous Earth is the natural answer! I am also excited because I know it will furthermore deworm and de-parasite every single dog and horse that we have on our property
This product works for so many things, which I am about to discuss, but first let’s learn exactly what Diatomaceous Earth is.Diatomaceous Earth comes to us via the one-celled plant-creature called the Diatom. They live in the Earth’s waterways and as they synthesize the water, they build up these mineral silica crustations around themselves. They only live for six days and after they die, these mineral crustations fall to the bottom of the water. In a few select areas in the world where it has been untouched for thousands of years, huge deposits of Diatomaceous Earth are built up, as seen in this picture to the left.
Diatomaceous Earth is hence not really “earth”; it’s more like fossil shell flour – nothing more than the silica shells of these little one-celled diatoms. The micronized pieces of the Diatomaceous Earth powder are extremely hard and sharp. This is what makes it so effective for killing fleas, plus parasites and worms in animals and humans. This food grade Diatomaceous Earth is ground down into a micronized size and when you rub it inbetween your fingers really hard, you would have no idea that it is actually so hard and sharp at the smallest level. It just feels like any type of powder. However, to insects, fleas, tapeworms, mites and other parasites, it is just like shards of glass.
The Diatomaceous Earth gets onto the insect, cockroach, flea, or parasite, and as they move, these tiny microscopic sharp pieces scr@tch off the waxy coating of these bugs and they eventually dehydrate and die within an hour. You can put a coating of Diatomaceous Earth on your dog, for example, and it has the great potential to k!ll any fleas and ticks they are carrying more effectively than toxic chemicals, and in a very short time frame. Diatomaceous Earth (DE) has the potential to work effectively on bed bugs, mites, for flower gardens (just sprinkle it on the flowers and dirt), for organic gardening (effective against all g@rden “pests”), and for fruit trees (just mix with water and spray it on the fruit trees for pest protection). It is also great to feed about a tablespoon of DE to pets, because it has the potential to completely deworm them in literally just a few days.
This product is food grade and humans can consume it too, but I recommend only consuming Diatomaceous Earth short term against tapeworms and other macroparasites. I know of some people who take it every day for managing parasites and cleaning the walls of the intestines, but it’s not something I would personally intake on an ongoing basis. Although it is micronized and you can’t really cut your fingers with it, no matter how much you pinch and rub it, still… it is still like glass on some level. For me, I would be concerned it might create polyps in my intestines or possible other issues if I consumed it long-term. In the short-term, I consider Diatomaceous Earth an outstanding product for simple, natural parasite/pest control for the whole family!
